Day Seven - Meals

Breakfast - The usual porridge.

But do you know ... I am really enjoying this.  Getting up each day without having to think 'what's for breakfast' is pretty refreshing.  My choices at the moment are really just toast and marmalade or porridge ... I'm sure I could think of many more variations if I should choose to do so but 'the usual porridge' is fine for me at the moment.

Lunch was a rather delicious cheese and lots of onion sandwich. (1)

If you think the bread looks different it's because it is!  One morning Alan had two slices of my bread for his toast so he owed me two slices of his bread ... I waited until he had my favourite loaf and then took back what was owing to me  :-)

Tea was lovely, a pasta bake.   (4)

Cooked by my new method of putting the uncooked pasta into a watered down sauce and then letting the whole thing cook away in the oven until the pasta is lovely and soft.  This way the pasta takes up the sauce, instead of being cooked in water first and taking up water,  it makes the whole thing taste gloriously rich and unctuous.  The green flecks are one of my spinach cubes added for extra flavour and goodness, it really worked.

5 of my 5 a day

  1. I like porridge for breakfast too in winter, with a dollop of jam, or bran flakes or Weetabix with warm milk. What veg did you put in the pasta bake?

    1. The base was the pasta sauce I made last week, so tins of tomatoes, chopped onions, chopped peppers, fresh tomatoes and one of my little frozen spinach cubes added for a hit of green goodness.

  2. Oh, that's a good idea about the spinach cubes! Sometimes I cook pasta in a watered down pasta sauce on the stove, but it's nicer baked in the oven.

    1. Spinach cubes are brilliant, I use them from frozen and just slice them up. They defrost almost instantaneously in the sauce 😊

  3. That's a canny bread swap - good for you! :-)

  4. That's a great way of doing pasta and one I shall copy.
It will stop the kitchen steaming up and me getting bored standing round waiting for the spaghetti to cook.
    Thank you. Sue

    1. And it's so tasty when baked rather than just simmered 🙂
