New Challenge - Two Weeks Living on a Box

So ... my new Challenge is Two Weeks Living on a Box.

Nooo ... I am not balancing on a box for a fortnight, I am eating from the contents of a box designed to feed two people for one week.  But as I am only one person and do not wish to share this Challenge, the food should last me two weeks, with careful storage.

Morrisons have been doing various food boxes since just after the start of the Coronavirus pandemic but they were for meat eaters or vegetarians, and then last week they launched the Vegan Food Box and I spotted it mentioned on one of the groups I am in on Facebook.

The British Food Box - £45

They do a basic food box with a mix of meat and groceries for £35, and also this British Food box for ten pounds more.

The Gluten Free Box  £35

And then the one I have chosen - The Vegan Food Box - £35

It caught my imagination straight away and I had an 'Aha ... that's a good new Challenge'  moment.  After looking around on social media I found that someone had already priced up the contents of the box if you were to go and shop for the individual items at Morrisons for yourself, and seemingly the cost of all the items combined adds up to just over the £34 mark.  So with delivery to your home address included in the price of the box it seems that this is very good value.

We shall see won't we!!

So what does the box contain exactly, the blurb on the Morrisons page says this:

What's in the box?

So using the listed items as a starting point I am having a little go at menu planning over the weekend, when my box is delivered on Monday I will know for sure what my box contains and will be able to tweak the menu plan if necessary.

  3. Being an NHS shift worker, the vegan food box would have been ideal for me at the beginning of the pandemic when everyone was struggling for shopping. Now things have calmed down and we have NHS hours etc I don't really need it so its introduction is a tad too late for me. That said I have been shopping for my mum (in her 80s and us at Morrisons). Good luck with the new challenge.

    1. The did react quickly with some boxes, but the Vegan and the Gluten Free boxes have only just come out unfortunately. Thank you.

    2. Yes, they were really quick with the two original boxes and some colleagues took advantage of them.

  4. I've bought these boxes too, Sue, though mainly the meat one for G. I'm ordering one for delivery next week to try to eke out the food budget a bit. Shopping deliveries from Sainsbugs are costing a fortune. I'm looking forward to reading all about this challenge! Yay!

    1. It does make shopping so much safer doesn't it, and it's good if the things in the boxes are what you need. Perhaps I should have mentioned the meat one to Alan, but I'll let him roam the meat aisle in Tesco for his shopping this week.

I am still trying to be careful about going out so having the worry taken away for two weeks is amazing. Obviously I have Alan who is diabetic and yet also a very necessary key worker, and then I also want to stay fit and healthy and know I am clear of Covid-19 as I am looking forward to being able to visit my Mum in some manner as soon as I possibly can and she is in the vulnerable category because of her age and healthy issues.

  7. There's a pretty good range of them now, and they seem good value. I liked this one as it seemed to contain both store cupboard AND fresh foods.

  8. It will be an interesting challenge. The box wouldn't do for us as we would miss our beer and wine or you allowing to add beverages!

    1. I have coffee in my store cupboard, but I'm not drinking alcohol, contrary to popular opinion, at the moment so it will just be coffee or water 🙂

  11. You always come out on top with these challenges. So I'm very interested to see what you make with the ingredients, maybe I can pick up a few vegan recipe tips. I see there is only one 'naughty' item, so a few biscuits a day with a cuppa. I wonder if because it will be low calorie and healthy whether you will lose weight as well? Although from what I've seen you're not a big eater anyway. You're a good sport to share these challenges with blog world. Good luck with it.

    1. Thank you for the good wishes and for the reminder to weigh myself before I start the Challenge, I hadn't thought of that. I do hope I lose a couple of pounds as Lockdown has not been kind to me, I'm used to walking a lot more than I have over the last few months and I'm afraid I have put on 7lbs!!

I think I will use the biscuits as a little 'supper' with a cup of coffee before bedtime, a nice little treat to end the day. I will have to count them out when I open the pack and ration them over the course of 14 days ... a VERY little treat :-)
