The One Hundred Books Challenge

Right back at the start of this year I began one of the six Challenges that I have managed this year.

You'd think with a year of more time and less ability to do so much of what we normally do in our day to day lives completing Challenges would have been a doddle, but in many ways this year has proved harder than most to set my mind to anything.

With such huge disruptions to normal living and in my own life, Challenges were at times just not on my mind at all.  You would also think that given all that 'extra time' lockdown gave us, staying at home, following rules etc etc reading more books would have been a given to an avid book collector like myself.

Quite the contrary, if anything I found myself harsh on my collection and lots of books were jettisoned without even appearing on my list of read books, after all if I didn't read more than a couple of pages they didn't deserve an entry at all.  I made more than £140 selling books through Ziffit and donated some to charity shops when they were open.

So how did I do?

Below is the final tally of the books I read each month and the grand total is 45 books read.  Not the one hundred that I aimed for, not even the halfway point ... a sad years reading in my opinion and I know I can do better.

Hopefully next year will be better and this brings me to something else.  Next year this blog will be dormant as I have started a new blog for a hopefully year long Challenge that I am hoping to complete.  It too involves a lot of reading ... so maybe I will find my reading mojo somewhere along the way ... and it deserves to stand alone with it's own space in blogland.

If you scroll to the bottom of this post you will find a link that will take you to the first page of that blog and posts will begin in earnest next week.  Thank you for reading all about my Challenges this year.  The links of all my Challenges for the past three years will remain on the sidebar if you wish to read them.

Challenge One 2020 - The One Hundred Books Challenge - Update

Some of you might remember that right at the start of this year I set myself a year long Challenge to read 100 books in a year.  The link above will take you to that post.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy I thought to myself, that's just one 'readable book' and one recipe book a week ... I can do that no problem.

Ha!!

And THIS LINK will take you to the regularly updated list of books that I have read.

I am not doing that well am I  ... I am up to book number 29!

I thought I would be reading more, especially when lockdown hit, but it seems not.  I can't explain it, I used to always be found with my nose in a book.  Now I can pick up a book meaning to read for a while and get distracted far too easily.  It seems I need to relearn to focus more intently, perhaps read more books that really call out to me or are recommended.

At the moment I am reading this, and it's a nice easy read so it will be one more ticked off my list by the end of the weekend.

Only 71 to go then!!

In Ration Challenge News

I got an email the other day from Eric , see it below.   They announced a Flash Fundraising Award thingy on Facebook and luckily for me some of my donations came in just at the right time to earn me the choice of two teaspoons of coffee or sugar to be used at any time during Ration Challenge Week.

Of course I chose coffee  😁

What a lovely treat that will be at some time, I think I will save it for when I really need it.  And of course I will say it again, THANK YOU so very much for the amazing amount of money you have donated up to now.

Here is my Fundraising Page

Hi Sue,

Thank you so much for your amazing fundraising efforts!

This is just a quick email to confirm that your fundraising during the flash reward has earned you 2 tsp of instant coffee OR sugar that you can enjoy during your Ration Challenge, and to say thank you for really going above and beyond.

And if you haven’t already, don’t forget to thank everyone who helped you earn this reward.

Thanks again!

New Challenge Coming Up

There's a new Challenge coming next week.

I've been racking my brains thinking of what to do next, after all lockdown is or should be the perfect time to do a few Challenges.  This new one came quite organically with something I spotted on Facebook and the sudden thought that ... THAT IS IT!!

So the thing I need as the main component part of the Challenge is ordered and should be arriving next week, and then the Challenge will begin.

Before that I am not going to let the cat out of the bag.

📚📚📚

In the meantime I thought I would share how The One Hundred Books Challenge is going, not very well if I'm honest.   I am only up to 23 books read which works out at an average of around 5 per month, and I should be aiming for 8 books a month if I want to get to the magic 100 by the end of the year.

But I'm not going to cheat and find skinny little books or say I've read them when I haven't.  To qualify as a book read my rules (the ones in my head) say that I have to read almost all of a book before I give up.  So a couple have been started and gone straight into the car boot sale box while I ask myself  'what on earth was I thinking getting that one?' ... and they don't get counted.

It is interesting to go slowly and surely through my bookcase of possibles and have a good read, and I do have to admit to a few new ones creeping in via Amazon Prime  😉

To have a look at the books I have read up to now over the last five months see here -

So of the twenty three books I have read up to now, fifteen of them have gone into the car boot sale box to be sold and the remaining eight have gone onto the bookshelf of books that I will keep.  It's a brilliant  way of whittling down the stock  😃
