Crazy Days Challenge - Day 34 - Quick Shop

Just when we were toying with the idea of putting off the shopping for another day as the milk rationing was working well, Suky's slightly runny eye over the last couple of days got much worse and she started to seem really off colour.

A trip to the Vets was quickly arranged and with clever social distancing everything has been sorted out.  She is on antibiotics and eye creams to try and halt a bad eye ulcer, with a follow up visit destined for Thursday.

Anyhoo ... we decided while we were out we would carry on into Llanrwst and visit the Co-op for milk and bread.  I'm glad we did it was deserted, completely unexpected for 11am on a Monday morning.  I picked up a four pinter of milk, a sliced seeded loaf and two packets of buns along with the above pictured Co-op Frozen Meal Deal.  I thought it good value for £5, it's all things we will eat and a delicious treat for Alan who had finished the last of his ice-cream over the weekend.

I also found this!!

There were a few on the shelves, but I was good and left the others to hopefully be shared out among people who need it more than I need a stash.  Hopefully the country's flour situation will start to improve soon.  Seemingly it is out there just in industrial sized bags not our little 1.5kg sized ones.

We also rather naughtily took Mavis out with us, it would have been too cruel to leave her at home on her own, taking Suky out in the car and not her ... so she came along for the ride.  Alan took her for a mini walk while I waited for the Vet to bring Suky back out to the car park, and then while I was in the Co-op he strolled quietly around the distant bushy edges of the car park with them both on short leads.  It seems to have settled her a little bit she was starting to go stir crazy.

    1. This one just seemed better than usual, no Smiley faces or things we wouldn't really enjoy. I might go and pick up another one of these as a bit of a freezer filler, they had A LOT of the items, as Suky has a check up at the Vets on Thursday morning and the Co-op is in Llanrwst too.

  2. That is a good meal deal isn't it.
I eat meat (only about twice a week now) but just love fish.
Will be nice to have a treat of proper fish and chips from the chippy again once all this is over.
Glad you took Mavis she would have been right fed up left at home bless her, it is hard for the animals as well. x

    1. It is a good one.

Yes, even though officially here in wales you can't take you dogs out in the car to begin exercise it would have been too cruel for her to see us drive off with Suky. It has settled her a bit.

  3. That's a brilliant meal deal for a fiver. I wouldn't mind one of those but our Co-op in the village gets very busy and I don't want to risk it. Sorry to hear Suky isn't well, poor soul. Personally, I think you did the right thing to take Mavis out as well. She would have felt quite abandoned all alone. I hope Suky's eye gets better very soon.

    1. Is there someone who could pick you up one of the meal deals while they are out shopping?

I just couldn't have driven off and left Mavis alone at home, she sits on the back of the sofa watching the cars in the garage apace when we go outside, just to check we aren't going anywhere without her ... imagine her poor little abandoned face looking at us through the window if we had driven off!!

    1. I pounced when I saw the flour. It's a good job there is a strict one way system meaning that you have to walk up and down EVERY aisle or I wouldn't have spotted it :-)

  5. Hello, I always read your blog but rarely comment. With reference to Suky's eye ulcer, our 13 year old collie cross had one before Christmas. It didn't heal at our vets and we ended up with a specialist referral. We were told that if they don't heal quickly they very likey will not heal without intervention especially in older dogs. We saw the specialists within a day of the referral getting to them and they examined her, explained what was happening and what needed to be done and the chances of success. The procedure was carried out that day (under sedation). We took home a very sleepy dog in a full cone, and her various drugs the same afternoon. She made a full recovery very quickly. As she is not insured it was a bit costly (approx £700 in total) but very well worth it. I hope that Suky recovers quickly and doesn't need their services. (The ones we saw are based near Frodsham so may be your nearest, They are 30+ miles from us)
Best wishes to you all Chris.F.

    1. Yes, it seems to be quite common from the vet was saying, especially in dogs with slightly protruding eyes, such as Pugs. Fingers crossed we've caught it in time but if the worse comes to the worse Suky is insured and we will make sure she gets the best treatment.
