Eat the Stores - The Constantly Evolving Freezer

This photo was taken on the 4th January ...

... and this one just now.

As you can see the actual amount of food in the freezer has not gone down significantly.  Now this is partly because I added to the contents by putting in so much of the post-Christmas foods, partly because food has been moved from the large chest freezer in the workshop to this one as soon as space appeared,  and also because leftovers have been frozen as fast as we have been eating the food out of it.

It's like a constantly evolving full freezer that never seems to empty ... only change.

Well for the next couple of weeks I am going to menu plan from this freezer, that is to have all the meals that we have, with the exception of breakfast,  planned from things I can see in there.  Surely after two weeks it will look a little bit different!!

  1. I love the shelves in the door. I didn't know freezers had them. Having supplies in can be a comfort.

    1. Yes, they're really handy and course it means the shelves are not as deep so I can usually find stuff quite easily. I do like the design of this fridge/freezer.

  2. Good luck making a dent in your freezer contents! Amazing how hard it can be to actually make a difference, when you're still adding leftovers, extra portions and yellow-stickered bargains.

    1. Yep, that's why I'm determined to only take things out of the freezer until the end of the month. NOTHING is going to be put in there 🙂

  3. Like myself you will be ok if we get snowed in. x

    1. Haha ... there's no chance of us starving. I reckon we could last at least a month with no supplies.

  4. It's odd isn't it - I have been using items from my freezer (just did a bit of a re-org on Saturday) and yet it never seems to be any emptier! Today I've made a big pot of soup so at least 2 or 3 portions will be added later today! I'm always surprised at how much can be kept in my apt. sized fridge's freezer compartment - as long as I'm organized.

    1. It is odd isn't it. You take one thing out, add a few ingredients and then three times as much seems to go back in. Mine has been getting very 'bitty' so I'm hoping that by focusing on emptying out the freezer for the rest of the Challenge I can get it down to basics and some kind of order.

  5. A freezer is hard to run down I find depending on what you take out. If I take battered fish out it leaves a space, if I take fresh fish out it's usually for a fish pie so up to 4 portions may go back in. Same with mince even though I freeze in batches of 250g because I bulk out with veg and lentils upto 10 portions of chilli may go back in, cottage pie 4 portions, lasagne 6 portions. So it's not so easy xx

    1. No it's not easy, but that is very sensible way to use your freezer space and one I am going to be getting back to once we have eaten the food that currently lives in there.

I don't know how so many packets have accumulated in there ... well I do, I bought them!! But I would much rather have the ingredients for, or the actual homemade ready meals stacked up in my freezer.
