I needed to move on from my blip ... and get right back into eating down the stores.
I managed to get myself back into the right mind-frame by looking at what I had actually bought, how I would use it and the impact it had on the amount of foods already in stock here. I mean I spent £18.09 on my mad shopping spree, which although a reasonably large amount is not a HUGE amount. Prior to my blip I had spent a total of £11.91 this year on food, so added together it is a grand total of £30.
That nice neat thirty pounds made me smile and sometimes all it takes is a smile to get you back on track.
So now I am getting back to not spending money on anything except the absolute necessary, which hopefully thanks to the way the rest of this month is looking to pan out will be at most two bottles of milk for Alan's drinks and cereals, and perhaps a loaf of bread.
In the spirit of eating down the fridge, my lunch today was the last two slices of cheese from this pack, the last of the opened iceberg lettuce and some red onion.
Back into the fridge went the unused little piece of red onion, because although I love, love, love using up the last of anything I am not doing it just for the sake of doing it ... and I want my last few red onions to last as long as possible.
Oh, and I should just point out that the Dentistix dog chews in the top photo were not part of my lunch 😀
🥘
I did wonder what the sticks were. I thought that they were chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice them when I took the photo, so I thought I better explain ;-)
DeleteI reckon you're doing really well and never thought of it as aby sort of a blip, just common sense and making the best of what's on offer.
ReplyDeletexx
I guess you're right, I'm just a bit hard on my self sometimes.
DeleteI'm so glad that eating the stores doesn't include you finishing off the dog chews!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what the DentaStix were in the picture for? White teeth? Fresh breath?
DeleteOur boy loves them
I thought they were chocolate fingers! I don't own any pets.....
ReplyDeleteI am really trying to do the same this month and even though I have spent more than I'd hoped - it's still a lot less than usual.
I have really made headway with both using up what I have and making do with something else when I have run out of items. I now wait and see if there is an alternative rather than running out for a replacement - and so far, I've always managed.
We were making reasonable headway and then I went bloody shopping and got tempted 😠 I am going to be really firm with myself for the rest of the month.
DeleteI thought that they were chocolate match sticks too, glad the you feel back in control after you 'blip' onwards and upwards xx
ReplyDeleteHaha ... it's a good job I explained what they were 😄
DeleteIve just realised that you are the lady who is holding the cabbage from your old blog that I used to read daily!!.I must say say I loved it when you done a rations type way of living?.Where you said that the cheese goes alot further if grated and you dont waste even a tiny slice of onion..well Ive been doing that ever since I read your blog. Not one slice of anything is wasted in my house now!.Its good to find you again!,xx
ReplyDeleteYes, it's me 🙂
DeleteGlad to hear there's no wastage, you'll be saving lots of money this way too 😀
Glad you got over the blip. I think you are doing very well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
