Is It All White and Black?

To keep me inspired and on the right track, just recently I've been watching lots of YouTube clips and reading minimalism posts from other folk in this wonderful Webby World.  Now most of them seem to be totally up-front and show you their journey towards minimalism warts and all, but with some of them you wonder if it's all camera angles and them wanting to be on a bandwagon just for the ride rather than the journey.

I can show you what I mean here.

A couple of years ago we moved towards having mostly all white crockery with a bit of an embossed stripe, it keeps life simple, looks neat enough to make me happy when I go into the cupboards and means that if there's a breakage I can easily fill any gaps with another purchase of any white item that has embossed  line of any sort in it.  So we have white for crockery, plain glass for glassware and stainless steel for our cutlery ... SO if I was showing you my cupboards on a minimalism post I could show you the photo above and you would all go ... ahhh, hasn't she done well  :-)

Or I could show you the original photo I took, and how it looked before editing... and you could see that I am still on a bit of a journey, and there's absolutely nothing wrong in that ... I love honesty.

I'll be sorting through the top shelf later ... I can see a couple of things straight away that are supposed to be in the touring caravan!!

Unless you want to see my knickers ... look away now!!

And the 'black' part of this post ... underwear.

For the last few years I have always worn black underwear, nothing slinky or glamorous ... I don't live that sort of lifestyle ... just Sloggi pants, M&S ankle socks and good supportive bras.  Keeping it black, except for a couple of skin-tone or pink colour bras for under pale T shirts in Summer and a single pair of skin-tone knickers for under my one pair of light shorts, means that they can all get lobbed in the wash together, take minimal sorting out, socks that get holes can be thrown away and it's other half can wait for another lone sock to appear and they can once again be a pair.

It keeps life nice and simple and we both used to do this ...

... until just recently.

Now my lovely hubby has thrown a stripey stick into the works and I find myself having to match up socks on the washing line ... yes, I'm totally OCD about them having to hang in pairs.

I bet you never thought I'd share my knickers on a post  😄

The food in the cupboards is going down slowly at the moment, well it will if I keep having a round of toast with peanut butter and black coffee for breakfast won't it!!

Must do better ... must eat more ... haha, I never thought I'd hear myself say that!!

  1. Thank goodness it's not just me that has to have socks paired up as they hang to dry! MrEH hangs them randomly and it drives me mad! Having said that I do love a colourful sock, and will happily wear odd ones if that's what comes to hand!

    1. I also hang them up by the tops, I hate it when they are hung by the toes ... I know weird hey!!

  2. I the same "thing" about pairing socks on the line.I don't call it OCD though. I call it being careful, if I find a lone ranger then I know to hunt it out before it lures any more to join it.

    1. Haha ... I love it 'a lone ranger'. Of course with mine there's no chance of that they are all in the Black Gang ;-)

  3. I pair my socks up before pegging them. It saves time afterwards and yes, I hang them up by the top as well. Even my knee highs have to be in pairs.
Random socks live in the ironing basket until the partner turns up!

    1. I don't have an ironing basket, (I don't iron) so once off the line, they are folded and aired slightly on the Aga to make sure they are fully dry and then it's straight into the drawer.

  4. I'm the complete opposite, socks hang by the toes and it doesn't bother me where they hang on the line! and I never pair them before shoving them back in the drawer........(more time for reading!)

    1. You total rebel ... but to make time for reading is a good excuse ;-)

  5. In our house all socks (hubby's and mine) get pinned at the toes after wearing. The socks are washed and dried with the safety pins in place. I just fling the socks over the line to dry (toes up obviously). I keep my socks pinned after drying and just pop them into my dress drawer. No hunting for the odd sock for me. Hubby takes the pins out and folds his socks before putting them away. Eh, to each his own.

    1. Definitely each to his own ... I wouldn't dream of pinning my socks together, haha :-)

  6. Isn't matching socks fun. Sorry I pin mine on the line individually. Mainly so they dry faster though.

    God bless.

    1. Yes I peg them on the line individually, it was easy when they were all black bow I have to make sure Alan's are matched up and pegged next to each other.

  7. I wear exactly the same knickers as you - black Sloggi's, they are expensive to buy initially but I find they last for years. I too have a couple of white pairs which I wear under light skirts or trousers in the summer. I also wear only black or grey socks (my current ones were a very lucky boot sale find last year) and they have to be hung up on the line in pairs. PS. I'm also someone who has to have all labels facing to the front in my food cupboards.

    1. I usually buy mine when the offer is on in Debenhams each year, 4 pairs for the price of 3 and I buy 12 or 16 at a time. These will last me for at least two years when used in a regular rotation, so yes although it seems a big initial outlay you do get your money's worth for something that gets washed every time you wear them.

  8. I do hang socks in matched pairs, but have recently decided it really doesn't matter if my socks match if I'm gardening, riding, working in the barn or even doing errands.. being 70 allows you that!!

    1. I was going to say I'll let you know if I relax my sock rules when I'm 70, but as mine are all black anyway and will most likely stay that way it won't really matter will it ;-)
