Yellow Sticker Challenge - Day Two

I might have been 'robbed' in yesterday's post about the Co-op but I struck gold with my little foray into Marks and Spencer.  Talk about being in the right place just at the right time.  As I walked in two ladies were going round with a small trolley adjusting the yellow stickers that were dotted around on lots of various shelves with to quote them 'the second reductions of the day'.

I managed by circling a couple of times to get this little lot, some first reductions and some second, which will be added to many meals over the course of this Challenge.

My biggest coup were these packs of ham slices,  at first I thought they each contained four slices, but it turns out after using one pack on buns for Alan's lunch yesterday that each pack actually contains eight wafer thin slices.

I bought eight packets at just 25p each, and no, I didn't nab them all before anyone accuses me of being Little Miss Greedy Guts, there must have been about forty packs all reduced to this price which lots of other people were gradually taking.

I also picked up two packs of these Starter Selections.

At just 65p for each pack they were a really good bargain ... and ideal Six Nations snacking food along with a bottle of beer.

After I had paid the till spat out a coupon for £5 off a £35 shop, perhaps to be used after the Challenge is over.  I only tend to use these if there is something we really do need to stock upon so I will wait and see as I have until the 19th to use it.

An interesting evening meal.

My Wicked Curried Cauli ready meal and Alan's Cheese Salad Bowl from this M&S shop, on a bed of Mixed Leaves ... all YS items.

Sorry for the slightly blurry photo ... and that was before I drank my glass of cider  ;-)

Figures

Spent in M&S  £12.50    Original Price  £26.95    Saving me £14.45

    1. I do hope ours stays open, I think with all the visiting holidaymakers and day trippers it's safe though ... fingers crossed.

    1. I wouldn't touch slices of dead animal with a barge pole, but Alan loves his meat ... of any description :-(

  4. I always buy the packs of ham in M&S - really worth the £1. Fits perfectly onto a slice of bread. Trouble in my local M&S is that they have very short dates - I didn't think of splitting and freezing !! Doh!!

    1. Not bad for a pound are they, even better for 25p :-)

  5. You did well - and a nice variety. I looked for some meat reductions when I was in the supermarket yesterday picking up milk and bread but nothing. Today is a good day for reductions on meat but half the city is shut down due to a severe snow and ice storm which is hitting us at the moment so will have to pass this week.

    1. I did, didn't I. Unusual for me to be able to get so much, my timing was perfection. But you watch, if I go again at the exact same time there will be nothing there ... it's sod's law with yellow sticker shopping ;-)

  6. Gosh you were lucky!! My luckiest find recently was in my Sainsbury local where I found them reducing diced lamb, chicken breast and salmon fillets to a quarter of their original price. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for meat and fish Fiona x

    1. It's brilliant that meat and fish freeze so well isn't it, any offers can be snapped up as and when you see them, knowing that nothing will be wasted. We are going to be eating well long after this Challenge is over. Thank goodness the last Challenge left me with so much room in the freezer 🙂

  7. I loved shopping at Marks & Spencer but sadly it closed all its Canadian stores in 2000. I guess all the British people couldn't keep it going.lol

    1. I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time for once. My meal was okay, but I wouldn't buy it again, Alan's was HUGE and very tasty he said 🙂

  9. What a lovely haul from M & S, in our area we have never struck lucky there, yet! The starter selections look good as well as the ham. I don't eat anything when I am watching the Six nations as have learned from past mistakes that either food goes everywhere or I nearly choke, when shouting at the TV, hubby thinks I'm mad as I have no interest in sport, apart from rugby, but being Welsh I guess that would explain it. 1. Like you Alan is not a big sports watcher, but the world stops for the big rugby tournaments and I'm banished upstairs to the small tv and dvd player or into the office to use the computer while he watches. He does like a nibble while he watches. There have been no accidents up to now, but I think the dogs are on hand to pick up any sudden droppages.
