Another day, another shop, this time Asda.
I needed to go into Llandudno on an errand so on the way in I called to the large Asda there. The only reductions in the fresh food chiller were not the sort of food we eat at all ... not even for a bargain price. So I had all but given up hope of any YS purchases that visit when I spotted the ambient trolley at the back of the store.
There wasn't much on it really and a few people were glancing over and then walking away. But I decided to pick up the zip seal bags, these always come in handy eventually and I also picked up the box of Porridge Sachets. Not something we usually use as we buy our porridge at the value/basic range in large bags. But I thought for half price it would be good to try these single serve sachets ... just to see what we have been missing. I don't know why these were on the shelf and reduced to half price as they have months left on the date and there's nothing wrong with the packaging.
Not that I'm complaining of course :-)
Then as I walked up the aisle to go and pay for my two bargains I spied a trolley full of loaves of reduced price bread, so I nabbed a loaf to pop into the freezer ready for when we've used up my first YS bargain from the other day.
And then on the way out I spied a display of reduced to half price menswear ... and I returned to the checkout with a much needed hat and scarf set for Alan.
YS toast for breakfast this morning.
And two little faces in the doorway watching me photographing the food :-)
Spent in Asda £9.96 Original Price £19.55 Saving me £9.59
That's a brilliant saving - lucky finds.ReplyDelete
Very lucky. I'm thinking the porridge was reduced by accident as when you pick it up the box feels squashed out of shape ... but that's the design of the packaging 🙂Delete
Well done on yet more bargain reductions...and for walking away from the fresh ones. As we all know, a bargain is only a bargain if it's something we would use anyway. I like Alan's new hat and scarf, I bet he does too.ReplyDelete
He literally had them on within minutes of me getting home, to walk the dogs round the paddock ... it was freezing here. So a brilliant buy 🙂Delete
My friend works for Co-op and she says the YS stuff you get with long dates on is normally because the stores are not re-stocking that particular product (poor sales usually) but don't want half empty shelves, so YS the few remaining ones. I've picked up loads in the Co-op at ridiculous prices as she texts a few of us when this happens. Managed to get 6 jars of a particular Pataks curry sauce at less than 20p a jar because Co-op were switching to another brand. Re your Asda bread, I normally always get my bread YS'd there, had back bad last week so couldn't get to Asda and had to buy full price loaf from Co-op. I'm surprised you couldn't hear my sobbing on the way home from the shop LOL. Savannah.ReplyDelete
Oooh ... insider information, we like that :-)Delete
Yes, going back to full price would be hard, I think my increased YS habit will be remaining after this Challenge finishes.
Lovely reductions today and Alan has his much needed hat and scarf for a good price. I can walk away from ys items even when they are very low if I don't need it as I hate to waste food even if it's only cost 10p sometimes there's a glut of things and then next it has to come out of the freezer when there's nothing. Nice to see that Alan used his hat and scarf to keep him warm xxReplyDelete
I could have got him some gloves, matching but being sold separately, but I know he has a pair somewhere that he never wears, so like you say ... you have to walk away from some, even brilliant offers, if they are not what you need or will use.Delete
I use the little cartons of the instant stuff if it’s very cold when we are in the moho. You pour bouling water into the carton. It’s an acceptable substitute for the real thing occasionally but I always look out for deals. I’ll be interested to know what you think.ReplyDelete
We've still not tried it yet, we've eating mostly toast for breakfast this week, but I will give it a go tomorrow and report back.Delete
I have never used the single serve packages either. Perhaps let us know if we are missing anything.ReplyDelete
It will be interesting to try. I'm guessing the portion size is going to be a lot smaller than I usually have, I do like a nice big bowl of porridge :-)Delete
