Crazy Days Challenge - Day Four

Weetabix, well Tesco's own label Wheat Biscuits or whatever they call them.   I seem to prefer all the supermarkets own brand versions to the original.  Whatever they are called we have a lot of them in stock.  This is the large jar that usually lives on the caravan worktop.

And this is the jar that lives ...

… on the top shelf in the kitchen here in Wales.

Anyway with these two jars and the box of 48 that we have in the cupboard we will not go short of Weetabix for the foreseeable future.  Not that this will make Alan's heart sing, he was once stuck on manoeuvres, unable to come into dock and as the food ran out onboard the submarine, breakfast and lunch for two weeks was … yep you guessed it … Weetabix.  Breakfast served with milk and lunch spread with jam!!

Anyway yesterday I had Weetabix for breakfast, as I do most days at the moment, and Alan had toast with homemade marmalade.

Alan made lunch for us both, which was beans on toast.

I had to purloin a Google Image as I didn't take a photo of it.  I do enjoy beans on toast every now and then but he will insist on buttering the toast while it is still hot and it makes for a soggy base for your beans.  I am still in the process of training this man of mine obviously as the toast should be crunchy under the beans.

For our tea we each had one of these from the freezer.  Again this is a Google Image taken from the Tesco website.  I bought them on a whim from Tesco a while ago for me to have as a standby at home, but  last night Alan said he fancied the sound of it too.  So with a side of brown rice that was our tea.

They are gorgeous!

If you like a Korma style curry, you will most likely like these.  There is a hint of spice, but not a blow your socks off spice, much more mellow and warming, and they have a lovely rounded coconut taste which went absolutely perfectly with nutty tasting brown rice.  A little bit expensive at £3 each I guess, well to me who usually makes things from scratch but in this case well worth it for a treat.

I have even added them to our shopping list to replace when we do go back to the shops … one day in the future!

  1. Love your kitchen shelves.
I remember going through a phase as a child eating weetabix with butter spread on it.

    1. Thank you, they were made out of a length of worktop, simply sliced into three. The other one is over the dogs beds to the other side of the Aga. I cannot imagine Weetabix with butter spread on it ... and I don't think I'll try it 😄

    2. I used to eat raw potato and raw bacon rinds when I was a child … I wouldn't do that now either … haha!!

  2. I agree, a bit expensive but fine once in a while as a treat and, obviously, very much enjoyed. Loads less than a takeaway too!

    1. Yes if you think about it that way, comparing it to takeaway prices, it's a good treat once in a while 😃

  3. I do love a curry, we have a couple of tins of veggie curry that I could have opened last night but instead I used the ends of veg from the fridge along with some lentils and half a tin of coconut milk, I really didn't feel like cooking but so glad I did , it was yummy, Yesterday I thought I had better organise our " emergency " stores into categories so that we can find things more easily, we have plenty here but for some reason I am afraid to use any of it , it makes sense to use all the fresh stuff first but I fancied some tinned peaches ( the men had yoghurt, I don't do dairy ) but I couldn't justify opening a can just for me. I find I am being very squirrelish !

    1. I'm being a bit squirrelish (love your new word) myself, but I should have made something using the fresh stuff first. I'm going to 'stocktake' the fridge today and start doing just that.

  4. I love beans on toast and, yes, the toast should be crunchy! I cut my toast in half and place the beans directly on the warm plate *between* the two pieces of toast. Crunchy to the last :) Unfortunately, we are very low on beans and I couldn't get any in my 'click and collect' shop either :(

    1. Maybe I should get Alan to do that next time he cooks it. I've told him just because he keeps getting it 'wrong' doesn't mean he gets out of cooking … he will continue until he gets it right!! Haha :-)

    2. No no, you have all got it wrong, I love beans on toast the way Alan makes it, all soft and squishy. But my husband makes it the way you like it, all crunchy and solid.
Here's to hot buttered toast with our beans

  5. I don't like weetabix my self, but hubby loves it. If you get fed up of it as is, there are a few recipes on here to try. https://www.weetabix.co.uk/delicious-ideas/recipes/weetabix-cake Stay safe and keep well. Helen S.

    1. Thanks for that :-)

Although the first recipe calls for a heck of a large proportion of other ingredients … and only 2 Weetabix!!

  6. I don't eat breakfast very often instead I have cereal as a dessert. Especially a bit of fruit with granola on top and a little cream. Haven't had weetabix for yonks.

    1. I was eating porridge day in day out, but I think Weetabix has taken over. Once they have all gone it will be back to porridge though. Alan tends to have toast for breakfasts and cereal for suppers, although he prefers granola to Weetabix.

  7. I love beans, and I REALLY love toast, but as I'm one of those odd people who absolutely does NOT do soggy food, the two things need to stay a very long way apart, for me! As for weetabix - another one here who used to eat it split apart and buttered as a child - and I'd happily still do it that way now, too!

    1. No I HATE soggy food or even soggy textured foods, so my soggy toast with beans on top caused some face pulling. Some things JUST HAVE to be crispy and crunchy :-)

  8. I am afraid I butter my toast just like Alan, before putting on my helping of beans.

    God bless.

    1. Oh I don't mind butter, or in my case dairy-free spread, on the toast ... it's just that I usually leave the toast to cool down before I butter it if I'm doing this. You HAVE to keep an element of 'crunch' … it's the law … haha!!
